WHAT IS HYROX... Will it work for me?

With roots in CrossFit, Hyrox has fast become the standard to measure yourself by if competitive fitness is your thing. But most of feel like it’s an inaccessible technique, reserved for the elite & over-committed. That’s if you’ve heard of it at all… So, let’s dive in & discover if Hyrox has something to offer for YOU?

This is Hyrox in a nutshell:

FINISH 

That's 8km of running & 8 (purposefully simple) functional exercises.

Sounds brutal right? That’s because it is, but it could also be incredibly beneficial for us all. This is because aside from the obvious positive challenges to our fitness such as cardio, strength & mindset, Hyrox has proven to be incredibly motivating. With a format that is strictly unchanged across the globe at every event, you, me & the world champions are accurately comparable. You can strive to be the best in the gym, the best in the area & the best in the world, whilst reaping the rewards to your health.

 

However… In a very similar way to CrossFit, there can be a general air of unhealthy expectations within the Hyrox community. Find the right gym & you will train hard, but not too hard. Find the wrong gym & you might find yourself overtrained, injured or in a mine is bigger than yours complex 5 times per week. This isn’t a reason not to try it, but it is a reason it may not be for you.

It's worth noting, there’s nothing stopping you trying Hyrox at your own pace. Choose a distance & some challenging functional exercises to intersperse your running with & you’re good to go. We might even try some entry level classes at The Coaching Collective Hub.

 

Ultimately Hyrox is a beautiful blend of strength & stamina, which is always a good thing for our lazy 21st century bodies. So, if it sounds like your thing, give it a go!
